In the past few years, remote patient monitoring has become critical to providing healthcare. In 2019, the first remote patient monitoring codes were released which allowed for remote monitoring of physiological markers or vitals - think blood pressure and temperature. In 2022, to address the need for remote therapeutic monitoring, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) codes.
Remote therapeutic monitoring codes include anything outside of the physiological markers. This covers a range of care from patient setup and education to the actual monitoring of the muscular system, musculoskeletal system - is the patient doing the therapy prescribed.
