In the past few years, remote patient monitoring has become critical to providing healthcare. In 2019, the first remote patient monitoring codes were released which allowed for remote monitoring of physiological markers or vitals - think blood pressure and temperature. As remote monitoring has become a vital way to provide care, it became evident the first codes released for remote patient monitoring didn’t cover everything needed, especially in terms of patient therapy.

In 2022, to address the need for remote therapeutic monitoring, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) codes.

Remote therapeutic monitoring codes include anything outside of the physiological markers. This covers a range of care from patient setup and education to the actual monitoring of the muscular system, musculoskeletal system - is the patient doing the therapy prescribed.

The CPT codes released in 2022 that create an exciting opportunity for StrideTech Go for clinicians;

  • CPT code 989X1: Remote therapeutic monitoring (e.g., respiratory system status, musculoskeletal system status, therapy adherence, therapy response); initial set-up and patient education on use of equipment

  • CPT code 989X3: Remote therapeutic monitoring (e.g., respiratory system status, musculoskeletal system status, therapy adherence, therapy response); device(s) supply with scheduled (e.g., daily) recording(s) and/or programmed alert(s) transmission to monitor musculoskeletal system, each 30 days

  • CPT code 989X4: Remote therapeutic monitoring treatment management services, physician/ other qualified health care professional time in a calendar month requiring at least one interactive communication with the patient/caregiver during the calendar month; first 20 minutes

  • CPT code 989X5Remote therapeutic monitoring treatment management services, physician/other qualified health care professional time in a calendar month requiring at least one interactive communication with the patient/caregiver during the calendar month; each additional 20 minutes

For Stride Tech Medical, these codes cover and encourage;

  • Individual can use data to measure how well they are using their walker
  • Interactive communication of the device (both our feedback and our reports that users can get)
  • Interaction with their physical therapist to talk about specific therapies that they can use to increase their walker use and mobility

Under the new codes, healthcare providers are now able to be reimbursed for collecting “therapeutic data” using the virtual patient engagement and monitoring techniques that many clinicians are already performing today—opening up new revenue streams of up to $25,000 per provider.

This is a really exciting new opportunity for our Stride Tech Medical and healthcare providers! The new CPT codes increase healthcare professionals' potential revenue stream and allows our StrideTech Go to have another selling point.

If you have questions about our product StrideTech Go or how the new CPT codes have potential to make the use of StrideTech Go reimbursable, we would love to hear from you!
